Background:
Through our work with the Tasmanian community, we know they want to see Government invest in longer term thinking and planning, focussed on keeping Tasmanians well, rather than simply treating illness. As such, it’s exciting the Tasmanian Department of Health developing a 20-Year Preventive Health Strategy. This long-term vision recognizes that health is shaped by more than just medical care—it’s influenced by housing, education, income, social connection, and access to nutritious food and physical activity.
The Advisory Group will work in partnership with the Department to ensure consumers are part of building the Strategy from the ground up, with the aim of keeping community members at the centre of the engine that will drive the strategy implementation.
About the Advisory Group:
The 20 Year Preventive Health Strategy Advisory Group will bring together Tasmanian health consumers with diverse lived experiences to work behind the scenes, guiding the Strategy’s development and ensuring it’s relevant to Tasmanians and reflects real community needs.
Key roles of the Advisory Group include:
- Sharing lived experience and insights into what helps or hinders health in Tasmanian communities.
- Identifying gaps, opportunities and what truly enables preventive health services and supports that are meaningful to Tasmanians.
- Shaping draft documents, and structures that will enable the strategy to be successful for Tasmanian communities.
- Playing a key role in developing the way the Government communicates about the strategy, so it feels relevant and meaningful to Tasmanians.
- Supporting a bottom-up approach to health system reform.
We’re looking for people who:
- Bring diverse perspectives and lived experiences, especially from rural, remote, culturally diverse, or communities who experience access inequities.
- Are passionate about improving health outcomes for their community.
- Are willing to collaborate and contribute to meaningful change.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape a healthier future for Tasmania, where prevention is prioritised, and we aim for every person having the support they need to live well, whatever that looks like to them.
