HCT is currently seeking expressions of interest from health consumer representatives with a lived experience of cancer to attend a one-day workshop to support the development of the Tasmanian Cancer Strategy which will be facilitated by the Tasmanian Department of Health.

This is a one day, in person workshop being held on Friday 6th February 2026 from 9.30am to 4.30pm in Glenorchy. The Department of Health wants to hear from a diverse range of Tasmanians with lived experience to help inform the strategy and ensure it meets the needs of Tasmanians from across the state. Details relating to the EOI process are immediately below with further information about the background of the Strategy and workshop included further down.

Remuneration is available and catering will be provided

Is there support available for my attendance?

Support will be provided for people to attend from regional and remote parts of Tasmania (accommodation and travel as required)

How does this EOI process work?

We are seeking up to 10 health consumer representatives with a diverse range of lived experiences of cancer, both personal lived experience and carers. Decisions about who will be successful with their expression of interest and attend the workshop will be made based on a balance of diversity of geographic, identity and personal cancer experiences to ensure that the input into the workshop has the best chance to meet the needs of the many experiences of Tasmanians.

Background

The purpose of the Strategy is to improve cancer outcomes for all Tasmanians. The strategy will help to guide future cancer prevention and care in Tasmania. It aligns with national priorities, including the Australian Cancer Plan Welcome – Australian Cancer Plan, and provides practical actions alongside the high-level directions and priorities.

The cancer strategy is a State Government initiative and deliverable in response to the vision and policy direction of the Long-Term Plan for Healthcare in Tasmania 2040 which was released in June 2023.

This strategy reflects a strong commitment to reducing the impact of cancer and improving health outcomes for individuals, families, and communities across Tasmania.

Description of the role:

As a health consumer representative attending the workshop, you will be invited to participate in discussions on the day based on your own unique lived experience and perspectives. The aim of the day is to have representatives from all of the areas that support a person through their cancer journey to ensure the ‘full picture’ of care is captured. The day will be broken up into three main sections and will start with a background of the current way things look in Tasmania, and lead participants through to seeking their ideas about how to get ‘where we need to be’ to improve outcomes for all Tasmanians affected by cancer. No previous experience as a consumer representative is required.
