What is The Right Place?
The Right Place is a Tasmanian community initiative that builds community spirit by helping people connect with the services they need. It is based on the philosophy that no door is the wrong door. People seeking services are always in ‘the right place’ to receive easy-to-understand information, assistance with finding out what services exist, and help with accessing them by trained participating members.

The Right Place Statewide Project
Feedback from communities that have established The Right Place, and the recommendations from a UTAS evaluation, led to Health Consumers Tasmania (HCT) agreeing to coordinate The Right Place Statewide Project. HCT has demonstrated that is has strong, trusting relationships with local people in their communities and this trust leads to active and meaningful engagement from a wide range of community members. HCT staff have also been directly involved with The Right Place in many communities.

The aim of the Project is to co-design* the content and provide recommendations to government on the preferred format for flexible, adaptable and relevant resources, tools, training methods and strategies to support the needs of individual communities.

Megan Collier, The Right Place Project Lead is meeting with existing Lead Organisations and interested communities to start organising co-design workshops throughout the state, ensuring outcomes will reflect what is needed, and not based on assumptions of what people need to make services or programs work in their local communities.

* Co-design is a process in which stakeholders come together on an equal footing to discuss ideas, needs, actions and solutions. Co-design members are engaged as they have a vested interest, meaningful input into the process and power over final outcomes.
