Healthy Hearts for Tasmania project -developing a Statewide model of care for cardiac rehabilitation

Menzies is recruiting consumers for some research they are undertaking around heart health in collaboration with the Heart Foundation and the Tasmanian Government.

Please see details provided by Menzies below.

What is cardiac rehabilitation (cardiac rehab)?

Cardiac rehab is a health program for people with heart problems. It includes exercise and health coaching. It helps people get back to normal after a heart attack or heart surgery. It also helps reduce the risk of another heart attack or heart disease. Right now, cardiac rehab runs in four hospitals in Tasmania. Right now, some people who need cardiac rehab can’t or don’t take part. There are lots of reasons why.

What is Healthy Hearts for Tasmania?

Healthy Hearts for Tasmania is a joint project between the Tasmanian Government, the Heart Foundation and the University of Tasmania. It will develop a model of care for cardiac rehab in Tasmania. This will let more people who need cardiac rehab take part. There will be different services for different parts of Tasmania. To make sure the model will work, we need to talk with people with heart problems, and their carers. This will make sure the model for cardiac rehab suits people all around Tasmania.

What are we asking you to do?

We will run 3 group discussions: one in Burnie, one in Launceston, and one in Hobart. If you have a heart problem, or look after someone with a heart problem, we want to talk to you. Each group will run for 2 hours, and involve 8 people. We will tell you about our ideas for a model for cardiac rehab. Then, you can tell us if the model has any problems. You can also suggest how to improve it. We will put your ideas in the final model.
