We are the first peak health consumer organisation in Tasmania encompassing all patients, carers and communities – based on extensive consultations with consumers and stakeholders in 2016. Recognising the complexity of system change, we understand partnerships are vital when coordinating policy, advice and responses to governments and we seek to work in a collective manner with all community organisations.

Strategic and focused on systems advocacy and equipping consumers and service providers to work in partnership, we recognise that consumers and community members are an essential part of producing a better health system and have a meaningful role in policy and service planning and delivery. Better outcomes result when consumer insights and perspectives are considered. This is why we are here!

Our objective is to pursue the following charitable purpose:

Act as the peak independent body for all health consumers across Tasmania that can influence and improve the wellbeing and health of all Tasmanians, ensuring quality, equity and access to service delivery.

Provide am informed and representative consumer voice to the Tasmanian Minister for Health, public, private and non-government health service providers across all facets of
policy, planning, service delivery and evaluation.

Increase the skills and effectiveness of health consumer participation in local, regional, Tasmanian and national policy, planning and health service delivery through training and mentoring.

We influence decision makers.

“HCT has breadth of engagement and doesn’t just engage with the “squeaky wheels.” There is an independency of voice, ensuring they are community driven rather than policy driven.”
