24 April 2026

The University of Tasmania School of Nursing is seeking to establish a strong and diverse pool of consumer representatives to support its undergraduate nursing and midwifery programs, postgraduate nursing education, and nursing research projects.
Applications and Expressions of Interest are being coordinated by Health Consumers Tasmania (HCT).

About the Role
Consumer representatives bring lived experience, community insight, and service‑user perspectives to strengthen nursing education and research. Their contribution helps ensure university programs remain patient‑centred, socially accountable, and aligned with contemporary community expectations of nursing and midwifery practice. Consumer representatives may contribute across:

* Undergraduate nursing and midwifery programs
* Postgraduate nursing education
* Nursing research projects and advisory committees
*Supporting Education, Quality and Research

Consumer representatives play a consultancy role that supports:

– Course development, review, and quality monitoring
– Informing research priorities and grant applications
– Ensuring education prepares graduates to deliver safe, ethical, culturally respectful, and person‑centred care

Consumer perspectives help the School of Nursing:

– Reflect community expectations of postgraduate‑qualified nurses
– Review course quality and performance data through a consumer and patient‑safety lens
– Ensure learning outcomes support effective communication and shared decision‑making
– Advocate for curriculum improvements that enhance graduates’ ability to work with diverse populations

Representatives also contribute insight into emerging trends such as:

– Increasing expectations for shared decision‑making
– Expanded use of digital health
– Greater emphasis on cultural safety, respect, and inclusion

This involvement helps ensure patient and service‑user perspectives remain visible in course reviews, new course proposals, and ongoing program development.

Research Advisory Involvement Consumer representatives may also be invited to contribute to nursing research activities, including advisory groups that support programs and grant applications aimed at improving health services locally and nationally. Participation helps strengthen the relevance, ethics, and community impact of nursing research.

What’s Involved:

Flexible opportunities depending on interests and experience
Participation in committees, consultations, or project‑based work
Remuneration of $50 per hour
