This Monash University project focuses on improving how deterioration is recognised and responded to in hospital emergency departments. Deterioration refers to a person’s health worsening while receiving care, such as changes in breathing, heart rate, or alertness. Early recognition and response are important for preventing harm.

This research aims to explore how systems, communication, and processes in emergency departments can better support timely recognition and response to deterioration.

The research team is inviting people with lived experience to join an advisory group to help inform the project. This may include individuals who:

Have experienced deterioration while in a hospital emergency department, or Have cared for someone who experienced deterioration in an emergency department

What is involved:

Contributing lived experience insights to help shape the direction and design of the research Participating in activities such as advisory group discussions or focus groups Providing input on priorities, communication, and potential system improvements

Advisory group members will be supported and compensated for their time.
The project is seeking a diverse range of perspectives and welcomes participation from people of different backgrounds and experiences.
