Free training in Health Consumer Representation and Engagement

Health Consumers Tasmania is again running its free 3-hour training sessions for patients, carers, community members and health staff. 

The three-hour stand-alone session covers the role of heath consumers representatives, and theory and practice of health consumer engagement. 

Sessions for health staff are held separately to those for patients, carers, community members. Details for these sessions and registration links are provided below.

All sessions will be held at the Moonah Arts Centre, 23-27 Albert Road, Moonah and will be delivered by Kate Griggs, an experienced health consumer representative in local and national roles. 

Health Consumers Tasmania aims to provide a safe, warm and friendly environment in which everyone is welcome.

Patients, carers and community members

The training session for patients, carers and community members is designed for people who want to be a voice for health consumers and advocate for a better health system.

Sessions are being held on: 

Key concepts we will cover include:

  1. Australia’s Charter of Healthcare Rights;
  2. the theory behind the health consumer movement, as well as what we are aiming for; and
  3. what being a health consumer representative looks like in practice, be it through government consultations or sitting on a committee.

This session is open to all levels of experience, whether it’s your first time learning about this kind of work, through to the seasoned operators who would like to re-connect.

Health staff

The training session for health staff is for those who wish to learn more about how to partner with patients, carers and communities to improve health services and policy development.

It is designed to support health service providers and policy makers understand the role of health consumer representatives in consultation and committee processes, and how to best support their participation.

Sessions are being held on: 

Staff are welcome from all backgrounds – public, community, private and academia. All levels of experience are welcome, whether you are just starting or are more experienced and would like a refresher on best practice principles.
