The Eagle Hawk Neck Film Society’s recent screening of Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert was a resounding success, drawing a sold-out crowd from both the LGBTQI+ community and the wider Tasman population. Hosted as part of the vibrant TasPride Summer Festival, the event brought together an array of colours, food, wine, laughter, and an overwhelming sense of community spirit.
The evening, a true celebration of unity, inclusion, and connection, was made possible by the collaborative efforts of key local organisations and passionate community members. A collaborative effort of Tasman Voice for Health, Working It Out! and the Eaglehawk Neck Film society, the screening aimed to foster an inclusive and fun environment while also promoting local businesses and community organisations supporting the LGBTQI+ cause.

The event was a true community effort, with several local businesses showing allyship and playing a key roles in ensuring its success through generous donations of food and prizes for the best-dressed award. Working It Out!, staff and volunteers were on hand to share important resources and help connect attendees with inclusive services in Tasmania. This event was funded by the Eagle Hawk Neck Film Society, with in-kind contributions from Tasman Voice for Health through the Healthy Together Grants, courtesy of the Department of Health.

The overwhelming success of the event demonstrated the power of community collaboration and the importance of creating inclusive, welcoming spaces for everyone. The evening showcased the support for the Tasman LGBTQI+ community and the commitment to connecting and celebrating it.

The organisers and attendees are already looking forward to future opportunities to unite the community, spread awareness, and continue fostering an inclusive environment on the Tasman Peninsula.
