Tasman Blokes
16 September 2025

The Tasman Blokes initiative is showing how local communities can come together to support health and wellbeing, one small action at a time.
It doesn’t take funding or a formal structure to make a difference. Sometimes, all it takes is a few mates and a shared sense of purpose. Whether it’s helping a neighbour, organising a working bee, or simply checking in on someone who might be doing it tough, every small act of kindness matters.
Tasman Blokes is proof that when people unite around care, connection, and community, real change happens.
So why not start something? Or join in with what’s already happening around you? Together, we can build a stronger, more open, and more supportive culture, right here in our own backyard.
Tasman Blokes – A New Name with a Familiar Spirit
The group formerly known as the Men’s Health and Wellbeing Group has a new name – Tasman Blokes. Why the change? Members felt the original name was too formal and didn’t resonate with the spirit of the group. Tasman Blokes better reflects who we are: a down-to-earth, community-driven group of local men committed to improving health and wellbeing on the Tasman Peninsula. The change reflects feedback from members, who felt the previous name was too formal and didn’t reflect the friendly, down-to-earth nature of the group. Tasman Blokes better captures the group’s community-driven identity and its commitment to improving men’s health and wellbeing across the region.
About the Group
Tasman Blokes consists of a core team of four dedicated community members, supported by a broader working group of around 10. Together, they are working to turn the findings of the Tasman Men’s Health & Wellbeing Survey into practical action that benefits the local community.
Recent Activities
Working Bee for Men’s Health Week
In a recent working bee during Men’s Health Week, 8–10 volunteers completed six yard clean-ups in just seven hours. The effort supported community members in need and created a strong sense of camaraderie among the men involved.
The event also offered opportunities for open, informal conversations about loneliness, isolation, and wellbeing, conversations that are often difficult but deeply valuable. A local resident kindly provided morning tea, keeping everyone energised throughout the day.
On Air with Tasman FM
Tasman Blokes also featured on Tasman FM to continue promoting men’s health and community connection. Group members discussed the survey results, shared upcoming plans, and highlighted local programs such as Tasman Connect, TOGS, Ducks in a Row, and Mental Health Peer Support.
The broadcast was well received and helped raise awareness about the importance of looking out for one another and fostering community support.
Looking Ahead
Plans for the near future include:
Regular radio segments on Tasman FM
Additional working bees, with the next scheduled for late August
Development of a mission statement and strategy to guide the group’s activities
Training in responding to alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues
Why It Matters
Tasman Blokes is about much more than working bees and barbecues. It is about building a culture where men feel safe, supported, and empowered to talk about their health and wellbeing.
Every act of service, every honest conversation, and every gesture of care contributes to a stronger, healthier community.
How to Get Involved
Community members are encouraged to get involved, whether by volunteering, starting their own small initiative, or simply staying connected to what’s happening.
