TGA Personalised Medical Devices Survey
24 March 2026

Closes 24th April 2026
Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) invites Tasmanians to share their experiences with personalised medical devices. Calling for input from consumers, carers, and community advocates to help shape the future regulation of personalised medical devices in Australia. As new technologies emerge and become more widely used, the TGA is reviewing its approach to ensure that safety, quality, and public protection remain at the centre of decision‑making.
Importantly, you do not need to have used a personalised device to take part. The TGA is seeking a broad range of perspectives, including from people who support or advocate for health consumers.

What are personalised medical devices?
Personalised devices are designed and manufactured specifically for an individual. They are often created using digital scans, 3D imaging, or physical impressions of a part of the body. These technologies allow devices to be tailored to a person’s unique anatomy.
What the TGA wants to hear about
The consultation is seeking feedback on several key areas, including:
1. Types of personalised devices people have used or are aware of
2. Information provided before receiving the device, such as risks, benefits, or alternatives
3. Safety or performance concerns, including any issues experienced after receiving the device
4. Expectations for regulation, such as transparency, quality standards, and oversight
This input will help the TGA understand real‑world experiences and identify opportunities to strengthen consumer protections.
Why your voice matters
Personalised medical devices are becoming more common across dentistry, physiotherapy, orthopaedics, and surgical care. As these technologies evolve, consumer perspectives are essential to ensuring that regulation keeps pace with innovation while maintaining safety and trust.
By sharing your views, you can help influence how personalised devices are assessed, supplied, and monitored in Australia.
Consumers, carers, and advocates are encouraged to share their views to help strengthen future decision‑making.
The survey takes 5–10 minutes to complete and will remain open until 24 April 2026. Responses are anonymous.
