Tasmanian Disability Inclusion Plan – Update
26 March 2026

Why We’re Sharing This Update
Health Consumers Tasmania is sharing this update because the Tasmanian Disability Inclusion Plan will influence how government agencies design and deliver services that many people rely on, including health services. For Tasmanians with disability, interactions with the health system are often frequent and essential, and the way services are planned and delivered can have a significant impact on wellbeing, independence, and access to care.
By keeping our community informed about the consultation process and the development of the plan, we aim to support consumers, families, and carers to stay connected to the decisions that shape their experiences. Understanding what the government is working on—and how community feedback is being used—helps Tasmanians see where their voices fit into the bigger picture and how future policy may affect the accessibility and inclusiveness of health services across the state.
Tasmanian Disability Inclusion Plan: Consultation Now Complete
The Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPAC) has now completed its statewide consultation on the first Tasmanian Disability Inclusion Plan. The consultation ran from 21 November 2025 to 10 March 2026, inviting Tasmanians—especially people with disability—to share their ideas and experiences to help shape the new plan.
The Tasmanian Disability Inclusion Plan is required under the Disability Rights, Inclusion and Safeguarding Act 2024 (Tas). The Act sets out that the government must develop a four‑year plan to strengthen inclusion, participation, and support for people with disability across the state. The first plan must be finalised by 1 July 2026.
What the Consultation Covered
DPAC asked the community to share their thoughts on what should be included in the new plan. The consultation was guided by the discussion paper Towards a Tasmanian Disability Inclusion Plan, which brought together earlier feedback, outlined current work, and posed questions about future priorities.
A key focus of the process was ensuring that the plan reflects the lived experience of people with disability and is shaped in collaboration with the community.
How the Consultation Was Run
Throughout the consultation period, DPAC connected with Tasmanians in a range of ways, aiming to make participation as accessible as possible. Activities included:
- Webinars
- Face‑to‑face sessions held across the state
- Online surveys, including a plain English option
- Conversations with individuals, community groups, and organisations
- Written submissions, accepted in any format that suited participants
DPAC also reached out directly to disability and community organisations to help spread the word.
All submissions received will be published on the DPAC website.
What Happens Next
DPAC is now reviewing all the feedback gathered during the consultation. A summary of this feedback will be published on the consultation webpage once it is complete.
The insights shared by the community will inform the development of the first Tasmanian Disability Inclusion Plan, which will be finalised by July 2026. Once prepared, the plan will be made available in accessible formats as soon as possible.
DPAC will continue to provide updates on the progress of the plan on its website.
Discussion Paper and Accessible Formats
